Why Your Senior Photos Don’t Have to Feel Like “Senior Photos” | Columbus & Augusta Senior Photographer

There’s this idea out there of what senior photos are supposed to look like. You know the ones. Perfect hair, perfect smile, standing in a field, maybe leaning against a tree. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s also not the only option. Not even close.
Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where we throw that expectation out the window a little bit.
Because the truth is, your senior photos don’t have to feel like a production. They don’t have to feel stiff or overly posed or like you’re trying to fit into a version of yourself that doesn’t quite land. This is your season of life, and it should feel like it. Real, a little bit imperfect, and completely yours.
I’ve had seniors show up with inside jokes, random ideas, or things they love that don’t seem “photo worthy” at first. And those always end up being the moments that make the gallery. Laughing at something dumb. Sitting on the tailgate instead of standing perfectly posed. Walking instead of freezing in place. Those little shifts change everything.
A lot of times, the pressure comes from thinking everything has to look perfect the whole time. But some of the best images happen in between. When you’re adjusting your outfit, when you’re talking, when you forget the camera is even there. That’s where your personality really shows up, and that’s what makes your photos feel different from everyone else’s.
This is also why I don’t expect you to know how to pose or what to do. I guide you the entire time, but I also leave room for those natural moments to happen. We move, we talk, we try things, and somewhere in there, it all starts to feel easy.
At the end of the day, your senior photos shouldn’t feel like something you had to get through. They should feel like something you actually enjoyed. Something that looks like you, not just a checklist of poses you think you’re supposed to have.
If you’ve been worried your session might feel awkward or overly “photo shoot-ish,” I promise it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ll keep it relaxed, a little bit fun, and fully centered around you.
