What Seniors Forget to Plan For (But Always Wish They Had)
Most seniors come into their photo session thinking about outfits, locations, and maybe a few poses they’ve seen online. That’s a great place to start, but there are a handful of things that don’t always make the checklist. And funny enough, those are usually the details seniors end up loving the most when they see their final gallery.

One of the biggest things that gets overlooked is variety. Not just different outfits, but different sides of you. Senior year isn’t one-note, and your photos shouldn’t be either. You might be athletic and involved in school, but also laid back with your friends. You might have a bold, confident side and a quieter one too. When we plan your session, we want to make sure we leave space for all of that, not just the version you think you’re supposed to show.
Another thing seniors don’t always think about is timing. Not just the date you book, but the time of day your session happens. Light changes everything. That soft, golden glow everyone loves doesn’t happen at noon. Planning your session around the best light makes your photos feel warmer, more natural, and honestly just better overall. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details that makes a big difference without you having to do anything extra.
Let’s talk about comfort for a second, because it matters more than you think. The outfits you choose should look good, but they also need to feel like you. If you’re constantly adjusting something or feeling stiff, it shows up in your photos. The best images happen when you can move, laugh, and relax without thinking about what you’re wearing every five seconds.
Something else that gets missed is bringing pieces of your real life into the session. This doesn’t mean anything complicated. It could be your letterman jacket, your instrument, your truck, or even your dog. These small details help tell your story in a way that feels personal and grounded. Years from now, those are the things that will mean the most.
And here’s one that surprises people. Your mindset going into your session matters just as much as anything you bring with you. If you walk in thinking it’s going to be awkward, it probably will be. But if you come in open to the experience, ready to have a little fun with it, everything shifts. My job is to guide you the whole way so you’re never left wondering what to do next.
Senior photos don’t have to feel like a big production or something you just have to get through. When we plan it well and keep it centered on you, it becomes something you actually enjoy and feel proud of. If you’re a junior starting to think ahead or a senior ready to get on the calendar, reach out and let’s start planning something that actually feels like you.
