Skirts for Your Senior Shoot

Skirts are making a comeback this season, in lots of different silhouettes and styles, and we are loving it! Skirts are universally flattering, and are a great choice for a senior session if you want something a little more comfy than a dress. They are also perfect for people who have long torsos, petite frames, or shorter legs, because they are a little more customizable when you can pair with jackets or tops with different proportions. Here is a guide to the styles we are loving:

Midi: This calf length skirt can appear aged, or not as youthful as other options, but it can really be a great 90’s style piece if you style it correctly. Look for something with small florals, a slit, and a flattering waist to keep it not looking too much like office attire. We love the ones from Madewell, which have small details like buttons or slits, paired with platform sneakers and a denim jacket.

Maxi: This style touches the lower ankle or the floor typically, which means you petite ladies need to be sure you have the proper shoes so you don’t look like you are drowning in fabric. Be sure you can see the tops of your shoes peeking out underneath, and pair with a fitted or cropped top to keep the outfit correctly proportioned. We like maxi skirts paired with a fitted white or black tee or tank, and fun gold jewelry for an easy summer look.

Mini: A mini can be just right for a senior shoot, as long as you balance out the shorter length with a fitted, long sleeve top or a higher neckline to allow for more movement during your shoot. We love a fun, patterned mini skirt with a long sleeve, fitted knit top, and a minimalist heel. Add big hoops for a super youthful and flirty look.

Jean: We know, we know. The jean skirt seems a little dated, but they’re showing up everywhere, and they’re more flattering than the Hollister micro-mini skirts of yesteryear. Look for a more classic length that covers your rear and is fitted, so that you can sit down and move around without worry. Pair with an oversized tee or a cool, cropped puff sleeve top for something more edgy. JCrew carries the denim skirt from mini to maxi, and pencil styles, too.

A skirt is perfect for any body type and style, and if you’re wondering how to style it, just let us know. We are always happy to guide you through the outfit process!
