Support these Businesses owned by Amazing Women of Color
Did you know that women of color are responsible for opening over 80% (Source: Fast Money) of the newly opened businesses in the last year?! That’s a little known statistic that goes to show how innovative, creative, and successful that women of color are, and continue to be. I wanted to share some of the brands I’ve discovered recently, that are owned or founded by amazing BIPOC women. Please support them by placing orders, checking out their stores, and promoting them on social media!
The Crayon Case is a very affordable makeup line, aimed at those who beginners when it comes to makeup application. Each item ranges from about $5 on up, which makes it much less pricey than MAC or Sephora’s lines. I also love the punchy website and fun colors, and the idea that makeup doesn’t have to always be expensive to be fun! Their bundle kits are the best value, and include much of what you’d need to get started. I also love the inclusivity of their skin-tone colors. Check them out HERE.
The Lip Bar: I LOVE a good lip color, and founder Melissa Butler has some of the very best ones. You can find it in a few big box retailers but you can also order directly from their website. It’s found fame among some celebrities, and after her time on Shark Tank, where they told her she wouldn’t be successful, she definitely proved them wrong. Check out her huge variety of products, and all the details HERE.
Sukie’s Candles: Another awesome business founded by a gorgeous, strong black woman! I love Sukie’s Candles. They are leading the way when it comes to non toxic, beautiful candles with lovely scents. They are hand-poured soy candles, and they are made fresh to order. They also have been featured in lots of fashion magazines, like GQ, Vogue, and later on, in Black Enterprise. At $21 per candle, they are not the cheapest, but you can rest assured you’re supporting a great business, and also receiving a better quality, healthier candle. Click HERE.
The Honey Pot Company: Yep, these are feminine products, so if you’re a man reading, you can skip this one 😉 Founder Beatrice Dixon founded this company to provide better quality, and natural feminine care products. She has since expanded to items like feminine washes, and sprays, and you can even find her products at Ulta and Target now. This is a great way to reduce the toxins going into your body, and to support such a great idea. Check them out HERE.
Black Girl Sunscreen: This is a brilliant idea from a totally amazing founder. Many black women have found that regular sunscreens cater to lighter skin tones, and leave a white residue. This line is catered just for darker skin, and provides a better coverage, that blends in seamlessly. They even offer a kid’s line now, and they will soon be in Target stores (this year). It’s paraben free, and also free of many harmful chemicals, so you will feel great about using it. Click HERE.
Riot Swim: One of my favorite swimwear brands. Every single suit on here is GLAMOROUS, and will make you feel like a million bucks, even if you’re just lounging in your own backyard. I absolutely love the black one-pieces, but there are tons of very chic two piece bikini sets. Its a bit more spendy than a typical swimsuit, but it’s because you are paying for a designer, more tailored suit, and one that will last for years and years. You can also join their mailing list to earn an extra $15 off. Check out their entire line on their website HERE.
