Outfit Tips to Help Seniors Feel Like Themselves
What you wear during your senior session makes a big difference; not just in how the photos look, but in how you feel. And here’s the thing: the best senior photos always start with you feeling confident, comfortable, and like your true self. That’s why I always tell my seniors, your outfit should never feel like a costume. It should feel like you.

If you’re the jeans-and-Converse type, own it! There’s no rule that says you have to wear heels or a dress just because it’s a photo session. Your senior year is such a unique time in your life, and your photos should reflect your personality—not someone else’s version of “picture perfect.” Want to wear a denim jacket or your favorite band tee? Go for it. I promise you’ll love your photos so much more when you feel relaxed in what you’re wearing.
Now, if you do love getting dressed up, I say lean into it! Twirly dresses, flowy skirts, cute rompers, those can photograph beautifully, especially in golden hour light. Just be sure to choose pieces that move well and fit comfortably. We’ll be walking, sitting, laughing, maybe even dancing a little. The last thing you want is to be tugging at a too-tight sleeve or worrying about a neckline that won’t stay put.
Layers are another great way to show off your style. You can start with a base outfit, like jeans and a tank top, then add a flannel, cardigan, or even a cool jacket for a totally different look. It’s a simple trick to get more variety without needing to fully change clothes. Bonus: layers add fun texture to your photos too.
Don’t forget about shoes and accessories! They can add so much personality to your look. A pair of high-top sneakers, a wide-brimmed hat, a stack of bracelets, these little details help tell your story. And if there’s something that feels so you(like your guitar, your letterman jacket, or your go-to hoodie), bring it along. Even if we only use it for a few shots, it’s worth it.
Still feeling stuck? No worries. I’m always happy to help you choose outfits or send you inspo based on your style and location. I’ve worked with seniors who love glam looks, laid-back styles, western vibes, sporty pieces…you name it. My job is to help you feel confident in your skin, whether you show up in boots or Birkenstocks.
At the end of the day, the goal is to walk away with photos that look like the best version of you. So wear what makes you smile, what feels good, and what lets your personality shine. That’s where the magic happens!
