Hairstyles and Your Senior Session
Hairstyles are important for your senior session, especially in our part of the country, where humidity can impact your hair. Over the years, I’ve seen lots of hairstyles and some photograph more easily than others. Here are some good tips and ideas for you as you plan your senior shoot:
Stay true to who are you: Never try a drastic new hairstyle, daring cut, or color that you’ve never had before right before your session. If you are planning to do a drastic cut or style, make sure you do a test run long before your senior session so you have time to have it changed or adjusted. It can be tempting to chop your hair for a fun new look, but we recommend trying out a cut with time to let it grow out in case you don’t love it.
If you aren’t someone who loves a fancy updo or intricate hairdo, simple is okay. Brush your hair carefully and apply a serum or a hair oil to prevent flyaways. It’s okay if its simple, if it’s clean and tidy and untangled. Bring hairspray for touch-ups if needed.
If you have light or dark hair and are doing the style yourself, please use the proper color bobby pins. Thankfully, bobby pins now come in a variety of colors and tones so they match a wider range of colors and look less obvious. Remember that hairpins are very hard to edit out of a photos, so you want them to be as discreet as possible if they’re not part of the style like a decorative pin.
Run a trial: If you are planning to do your hair yourself, try out a few styles and have a friend photograph you with a cell phone to see how it looks. That way, you’ll know if a style works with your face shape and outfits, before your big shoot. I’m also always available for questions about hairstyles.
