Three Ways to Afford a Senior Session

Three Ways to Afford a Senior Session

Affording senior photos can be hard for many students, but especially during this time in our country, when inflation has made everything more expensive. As an experienced senior photographer, I know how impactful a senior session is, and how important it is to have them done. You will NEVER regret having your images done, and being able to treasure these portraits for generations to come. I know that being able to afford a shoot can be really challenging for some families, so here are some ideas for making your senior shoot a reality:

  1. Ask for donations for your senior session for graduation or Christmas. If you normally receive gifts or items for holidays or graduation, consider asking family or friends to contribute to your senior photos instead of traditional gifts. Although it can be awkward, you can include a tasteful note on your graduation announcements, like “In leu of traditional gifts, please consider contributing to my senior photo session at this link”. Most people want to give you something you’ll really use, so it’s a great way to be practical.
  2. Sell items that you own and clear your closet: You may be surprised at how much money you may be sitting on just in your own closet. Sites like Mercari and Poshmark can be great ways to sell items you don’t wear or use anymore and quickly save up a chunk towards your senior photos. We recommend starting by sorting out your designer or name-brand items (brands like Lululemon, Nike, etc., sell extremely well on the resell platforms) and checking comparable items to see how much you can earn.
  3. Cut out needless spending: If you are trying to cut costs and get some extra cash into your pocket, it’s ideal to cut out anything that you can. One of the top ways people can save money is by cutting out subscriptions. Sometimes, people have subscriptions they don’t even remember they have, like:
  • Spotify music
  • Wondery podcasts
  • Google drive or google cloud
  • ICloud
  • Hulu, Netflix, HBO, etc.
  • Meal plan subscriptions like Hello Fresh
  • Makeup subscriptions like Ipsy
  • Magazines
  • Nintendo or gaming subscriptions
  • Dropbox, Canva, or similar

Simply cutting out these items, which you may not even be using, can save you up to $30 a month! That adds up quickly!
