Your Senior Year during Quarantine

Your senior year has likely been upended by the events of the last two weeks, and you are not alone. There are high schoolers across the country who are trying to wrap their minds around the devastating loss of their epic senior year events, and my heart truly hurts for all of you. I wanted to share some ways this time can still feel special, even though you may be reeling from the world’s events.

  1. Stay connected with your graduating class: with the technology like Zoom or Marco Polo, you can stay connected with the people you are used to seeing every day. You can create group chats where you can add multiple members, and you can all log in at the same time. Its the perfect way to nurture the friendships and relationships you’ve built, and to help others keep their morale up.
  2. Use the extra time to foster new skills: Whether you need to learn to make a budget, cook from scratch, or organize your closet or dresser, this is the time to get some experience under your belt before you head off to college or on your own. Ask your parent for help, and treasure the time you have with them. You will look back on this time with good memories, even though it may seem hard at the moment.
  3. Send out graduation announcements: No matter when your graduation is, or should have been, you can still send announcements to your friends and family. They will understand if the date or time is incorrect, but it’s a great way to brighten up the mailboxes of family and friends who are also at home. While you’re at it, send a note or a card along with the announcement to really lift some spirits.
  4. Know this won’t last forever. The time will come when you will be able to look again to your college years, and the transition time you are in. Until then, keep your head up, and keep moving forward!
