Ways to Brighten Someone’s Christmas

The holidays can be really hard for some people, and knowing how to ease their sadness and struggle can be overwhelming for those around them. Whether they have experienced loss, grief, or just hard times, this time of year can bring up memories that are painful, or remind them they are lonely. Here are some simple ways to make someone’s holidays brighter this year, and spread the holiday cheer:

-Buy someone’s coffee: A cup of coffee or a favorite drink can mean a lot during a hard time, especially if finances are tight. Consider giving a gift card for just one coffee, or Venmo them some money to get themselves one. It is especially meaningful if you bring it in person to their door, with a hug and a special card. If you are in a drive through coffee line, try paying for the person behind you and leave them a nice note.

-Bringing someone dinner: a meal is the perfect way to help someone on a busy day. If you don’t cook, you can bring something ready-made like a rotisserie chicken and a simple salad. Many people appreciate a warm meal, and it works well for any occasion like sickness, a death in the family, or just during a time of year when things are hectic.

-Send them something special on Amazon: Amazon prime is a great way to send a gift in an easy way, without having to go to the post office or package up a gift. You can just select a gift online and have it mailed to your friend or family member. Just choose their address from the selected shipping addresses, and add a note in the gift receipt. We like the idea of bath bombs, chocolate, or a special journal or book.

-Simply spend time with them: Nothing means more than your time. Set aside time to have brunch or coffee with a loved one, and let them share about hard times they are going through. It is a special way to show them you care, and to stick with them when the going gets tough. If you have a hectic schedule, this means even more to your friend or family member!
